WP2

Case studies

Objectives

SYBERAC will perform several case studies to be used as base for further development and verification of landscape level ERA, working in close concert withWP3 and WP4. While conducting the case studies, results will be used in discussions in the Multi Stakeholder Platform, with WP1, and for further dissemination to wider audience (WP5).

Specific objectives are:

  1. Identify exposure routes and environmental fate of chemicals of emerging concern under different scenarios of biodiversity, exposures including mixtures, considering the flow of contaminants among environmental and biological matrices within terrestrial biodiversity networks (Obj. 2,3).

  2. Determine the apical effects from different exposures to pollutants on key species or functional groups and identify relevant endpoints for individual-level assessment (Obj. 1).

  3. Integrate assessments into a landscape-based evaluation of pollutant impact through the evaluation of ecological interactions and the use of ecosystem service providing units as protection goals, to support conceptualization of systems-based ERA (WP4) (Obj. 4).

  4. Provide results and proofs-of-concept to stakeholders (WP1) and dissemination plans (WP5) (Obj. 6).

Description of work

  • Task 2.1. Holistic exposure assessment of terrestrial biodiversity to environmental pollutants

  • Task 2.2. Identification of individual-level impacts of chemicals to be used for proxies at landscape level

  • Task 2.3. Scaling-up hazards at the landscape level

  • Task 2.4. Transfer of knowledge from case studies to stakeholders in support of risk assessment and mitigation.
