From Rice Fields to Classrooms: Berta Pérez Shares SYBERAC Research

Our researcher Berta Pérez (IDAEA-CSIC) has been active recently, sharing her work on environmental toxicology across two different settings. Berta, an environmentalist with an M.Sc. in Environmental Toxicology, is currently conducting her PhD within SYBERAC’s Case Study 2A, where she investigates how pesticide exposure impacts bat populations in rice field ecosystems.

Science in the making! Berta Pérez (IDAEA-CSIC) explaining the secret life of bats and the impact of pesticides to the next generation of researchers at Escola Marta Mata in Viladecans.

A Platform for Young Researchers

Berta recently attended the 14th Meeting of Young Researchers in Lleida, organized by the Societat Catalana de Química (SCQ). She gave an oral presentation on her research, discussing the chemical complexities of pesticide monitoring. These gatherings are a great way for our team to exchange technical insights with the wider scientific community in Catalonia.

Inspiring Future Environmentalists

To celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11th), Berta visited the Marta Mata School in Viladecans. She spoke with 6th-grade students about her career path and her day-to-day work protecting biodiversity. By explaining her research on bats and ecosystems, she helped show the students how science is used to solve real-world environmental challenges.
