SYBERAC team prepares next steps

In February, the SYBERAC team gathered online to fine-tune our approach for the upcoming Consortium Meeting (CM). It was a highly productive exchange, and it’s clear that our collective insights will be vital as we push toward our project goals in the remaining 22 project months.

Our primary focus was the intersection of Case Studies (CS) and the future of Systems-Based Environmental Risk Assessment (sb-ERA). We believe it is essential not only to advance current ERA practices but to ensure they are meaningfully linked with the innovative, systems-first approaches we are developing within SYBERAC and partner projects like PARC and POLLINERA.

To bring this to life at the CM, we had an engaging two-day agenda on 11 and 12 February 2026:

  • Day 1: We kicked off with updates from our CS-leads, followed by an afternoon deep dive. Sabine Duquesne walked us through the current ERA landscape (focusing on PPP with a REACH outlook), while Johan Axelman updated us on ongoing developments like PARC. To round off the day, Christopher Topping introduced his thoughts on a "systems-first" approach and how to link this with monitoring and our own field case studies.

  • Day 2: The morning was hands-on! Christopher Topping detailed the systems approach, leading into an interactive whiteboard session with James Williams to map out the connections between our CS and sb-ERA. We concluded the meeting with essential updates on modelling from Louise Wipfler’s team and communication strategies, especially developing our key exploitable results, from Cathrin Cailliau.

The energy during the call was great, and we are confident this structured dialogue will help us bridge the gap between theory and regulatory practice.
